NM State Neutralized by Bobcats in Abbreviated Affair

Aggies fall to Texas State 14-2 in five inning game

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Aggies returned to the NM State Softball Complex for their second of a two-game series against Texas State, ultimately losing by the score of 14-2 in five innings.

Freshman Jordin King made her Aggie debut, starting the game in the circle before pivoting back and forth with Kayla Bowen at first base. King went 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits to go with a strikeout.

Kayla Bowen came in to relieve Jordin King after she started the game with three straight walks. Ciara Trahan represented the first run on the board for Texas State, scoring off a hit by Anna Jones. Caitlyn Rogers and Dani Elder hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Bobcats an early 3-0 lead. Bowen caught Trahan looking, recording Bowen's second strikeout of the afternoon and ending the first inning.

Hailey Tanori got things going in the bottom of the first inning with a lead-off bunt, stealing second and giving the Aggies a runner in scoring position early. Yazzy Avila followed that up with a single before the Aggies were retired in three straight at-bats, ending the innings with two runners left on base.

A five-run second inning and a three-run third put the Aggies in a 12-0 deficit before a Riley Carley groundout with the bases loaded scored Jillian Taylor from third to give the Aggies their first run of the afternoon.

In the bottom of the fifth, Yazzy Avila reached base on a fielder's choice before advancing home on a throwing error for the Bobcats to give the Aggies their second run of the night. Ramsay Lopez flied out to right field to end the game.

The Aggies conclude the weekend with a game against the Oregon State Beavers on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the NM State Softball Complex. To follow along with the Aggies, tune into wacdigitalnetwork.com
