FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Looking to get back in the win column in Arizona, the NM State men's tennis team (3-9) instead suffered a 7-0 shutout loss to Northern Arizona Friday evening at the NAU Tennis Center.
DOUBLES
• The first and third second matches were where the tandem point was decided as NM State reconfigured its lineup to the one it had put out there for most of 2022 thus far.
• Louis Menard and Jordy Visser moved back up to line on and suffered a 6-3 loss to Facunodo Tumosa and Eban Straker-Meads.
• Like their top-flight teammates, Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke dropped a 6-3 decision to the likes of Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves in fight two action.
SINGLES
• NM State couldn't get anything going in one-on-one action as they tried to close the gap. Akkermans suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss at the hands of Joachim Schaefer in flight six play which pushed the Lumberjacks' lead to 2-0.
• Itay Feigin took just a single game against Ziomber in line four play, falling by a 6-1, 6-0 score to put Northern Arizona just a single point away from victory.
• Simecek and Zimober did battle on line three, only to see Northern Arizona's singles competitor score a 6-4, 6-2 win which locked up the win for the hosts.
• Both Clarke (line two) and Menard (line one) pushed their singles matches to three sets. The former could not complete his comeback against Straker-Meads, falling 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in second flight play.
• Menard's 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 loss at the hands of Tumosa followed Visser's narrow 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) setback against Groves.
COMING UP NEXT
• NM State looks to reenter the win column Saturday morning when it takes on Mesa Community College at the NAU Tennis Center. First serve has been set for 10:00 a.m.
