DAVIS, Calif. - Doubles play was a strong point for the NM State men's tennis team Saturday afternoon, but the Aggies found themselves unable to keep pace with Nevada once singles play got going and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Wolfpack in the final match for both teams at the Golden State Invitational.
DOUBLES
• Once again, NM State doubles prowess allowed the Aggies to jump out to an early lead.
• Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke made short work of Nevada's top-flight pairing of Loris Zisswiller and Satchel Benn, taking a 6-1 decision against the Wolfpack duo.
• Line two was where the Aggies wrapped up the doubles point. After Nevada evened things up with a 6-2 win on line three, Louis Menard and Jordy Visser came up with a 6-4 victory against Matheo Coupu and Ambroise Marchand on line two.
SINGLES
• Ahead 1-0, NM State saw its lead evaporate quickly once singles play got started. Nevada evened things up when Martin Simecek fell by a 6-3, 6-1 tally to Juan Batalla in flight two play.
• Nevada took the lead for good thanks to a win on line three. Clarke was stronger in the second set than he was in the first, but Nevada's Delmas N'Tcha claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win to open up a 2-1 lead.
• Akkermans played Marchand tough in the opening set of their fifth-flight battle, but NM State's Dutch sophomore wound up falling 7-5, 6-2 as Nevada extended its edge to 3-1.
• Luca Fe d'Ostiani tried to extend the match in line six, but was unable to do so and found himself on the wrong end of a 7-5, 6-2 score against Zisswiller.
