HUMBLE, Texas – In a field loaded full of top talent, the NM State men's golf team will have ground to make up as they head to the final day of competition. Playing in the All-American Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Houston, the Aggies find themselves in 17th place after day one.
Florida State, ranked 33rd among all NCAA Division I golf programs, leads the 17-team field, shooting 569 (-15). The Seminoles are sitting 17 shots ahead of Houston, who finished the day in second.
As a team, NM State found itself in 12th place after the opening round, shooing a 308 (+20).
Alvaro Morales led the way in the opening round and shot a team-low 75 (+3).
Round One
- Alvaro Morales paced NM State in the opening round with a 75. Morales shot one-under on holes 10-18 in the opening round, birdieing holes 14 and 17.
- Right behind Morales, Aidan Thomas shot a 76 (+4) on the round. Thomas birdied holes 4, 6, and 9 to finish holes 1-9 with a 35 (-1) on the scorecard.
- Joseph Robson and Garrison Smith posted scores of 78 (+6) and 79 (+7), respectively. The duo each birdied twice in the opening round to help shave strokes off of their first-round scores.
- Matthew Jackman birdied four times in the opening round, the highest of any Aggie. Jackman finished round one with an 82 (+10).
Round Two
- Thomas caught a hot streak between holes 10 and 13, birdieing three times in the four-hole stretch.
- Morales birdied three times on holes 1-7 to go even through the front nine holes in the second round.
- A birdie on the eleventh hole highlighted the second round for Smith.
