First day of competition complete in Arizona.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – With a chance to qualify for the NCAA National Championships on the line, Italia Aranzabal began two rigorous days of competition on Monday. With a total field of 98 competitors, Aranzabal was the lone representative for NM State.

Aranzabal, a Mexico City, Mexico native, competed in the first of her two events in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA National Championship. Unlike in swimming, divers must earn their spot in the national championships through the zone championships.

On the first day of competition, Aranzabal competed in a 1-meter field chalked full of elite talent. Finishing the day with a total score of 173.55 in her six dives.

Falling shy of the qualifying mark in the 1-meter, Aranzabal will have another chance to qualify for the national championships tomorrow as she will compete in the 3-meter dive field.

The 2022 NCAA Division I women's swimming and diving championships will take place from March 16-19, 2022 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
