Smith Leads Aggies at Bayou City Classic

MONTGOMERY, Texas.  – Heading into the second day of the Bayou City Classic, the NM State men's golf is in a solid position to make a run up the leaderboard. The Aggies finished the first day almost directly in the middle of the pack. As a team, NM State shot 609 (+33) and will begin the final day in 10th place.
 
Garrison Smith leads the way for NM State, posting a score of -2 on the day. After shooting an even 72 in the opening round, Smith shot 70 in the second round of the day to climb the leaderboard. Going into the final round, Smith sits just three shots off the lead.
 
Round One
  • Garrison Smith caught between holes 10 and 13, birdieing three times in the four-hole span. Smith finished the first round at an even 72.
  • All five NM State golfers birdied the 16th hole in the opening round.
  • Not a single birdie was carded by the team in the first nine holes. Each of the teams nine birdies in the opening round came from holes 10-18.
  • Tyler Diehl birdied on back-to-back holes to help trim his score on the back nine to 35 (-1).
Round Two
  • Between holes two and 13, Garrison Smith shot three under to help him finish with a 70 (-2) on the second round.
  • Smith finished the day tied for second place and sits just three strokes off the lead. 
  • Much like Smith, Aidan Thomas shot three under par from holes one to ten. Thomas finished the second round with a 71 (-1).
  • On holes 13 and 14, Scott Rescigno used back-to-back birdies to help trim his score, finishing the day in a tie for 61st place.
