CHANDLER, Ariz. – Facing a loaded field in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, the NM State men's golf team held its own, finishing in 17th place. The Aggies finished directly above Power Five foes Colorado and Texas Christian.
Garrison Smith led the Aggies over the course of the three rounds, finishing in a tie for 15th place. Smith's 69 in the third round matched his score from the afternoon session on Monday.
The Aggies will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday as they compete in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Rice, Sam Houston, and Houston. The two-day tournament will be held at the Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club in Conroe, Texas.
Round Three
- The Aggies posted their best round of the tournament, shooting 286 on Tuesday.
- Posting an 863 (-1), the Aggies finished below par in a tournament for the first time since the Arizona Intercollegiate on January 25.
- Garrison Smith posted a completely clean round on Tuesday, shooting three under with three birdies. Smith led the way for NM State with a tie for 15th place.
- All five Aggies birdied three times apiece in the final round.
- Matt Jackman birdied twice on the front nine to take a 34 (-2) into the back half of the course.
- Aidan Thomas finished in 22nd place, shooting four under for the tournament.
