Aggies Strengthen Infield with UT Arlington Transfer

Jessi Carreon spent two years with the Mavericks and will now suit up for Kathy Rodolph and the Aggies.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State softball fans have yet another reason to be excited about next season. Tuesday, Head Coach Kathy Rodolph announced the signing of Jessica Carreon. Carreon is set to transfer in after spending beginning her collegiate career at UT Arlington where she played two seasons.

· Coming off a sophomore campaign in which she was just one of two Mavericks to start all 49 games last season.
· In year two with UTA, Carreon batted .243 while slugging .287 and turning in an on-base percentage of .365.
· Combined for eight RBIs, a pair of doubles and one home run in the second year of her collegiate career.
· Additionally, Carreon tallied 21 walks to rank tied for first among UTA batters
· Finished the season 9-12 in stolen base attempts and posted seven multi-hit outings, including going 3-3 at the plate in the Mavericks run-rule victory over Baylor.
· Appeared in all 49 games as a freshman with UT Arlington, making 46 starts at second base.
· Finished the season with a .303 batting average to rank second on the team while posting a .320 slugging percentage and a .375 on-base percentage.
· Drew 13 walks while notching 37 hits, six RBIs and one triple during the 2021 season.
· Managed nine multi-hit games while putting together a streak of eight games in which she reached base.
· Was a four-year letter winner in softball at College Station High School where she was named 19-5A First Team All-District three times and garnered 19-5A Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019.
· Named to the Texas Writers All-State squad in 2017 and 2018.
· Holds all-time record for hits in a season at College Station High School.
· Is the daughter of Vincent Carreon Sr. and Amy Carreon and has three siblings – Vincent Jr., Deacon and Callia. Father, Vincent, played baseball at El Paso Community College.
