Complete 2023 Schedule
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State head softball coach
Kathy Rodolph announced the schedule for the upcoming 2023 season Tuesday afternoon. This comes after a 2022 season which ended in heartbreak after the Aggies lost to Seattle U (5-3) in extra innings during the WAC Tournament in Huntsville, Texas last May.
The Aggies will look to flip the script on their 2022 season and move forward into 2023 with a fresh attitude, some added motivation, and now with this new schedule, a clean slate.
The 45-game schedule includes 25 home games and 20 road games with the Aggies set to complete in one tournament and four multi-team events, not to mention the WAC Tournament held at the end of the season. This year's tournament makes it's way to Phoenix, Ariz. where Grand Canyon is set to play host. This season marks the Aggies final year competing in the WAC as they are set to join Conference USA next season, along with the rest of NM State Athletics.
The Aggies 2023 campaign kicks off with three-day tournament - The NM State Invitational – which will take place Feb. 10-12. The Aggies will welcome Colorado State and Bradley to the NM State Softball Complex for a flurry of games, with NM State set to compete in four games, playing each opponent twice.
The following weekend, the Aggies will travel to the Lone Star State for the Texas State tournament hosted by none other than Texas State University (Feb. 17-19). Four teams are slated to compete during the three-day tournament, aside from NM State: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, San Diego State, UTSA and Texas State.
Following their trip to San Marcos, The Aggies will return to Las Cruces where they will host the Annual Troy Cox Classic (Feb. 24-26). The NM State Softball Complex with play host to 12 games during the weekend with NM State scheduled to play in five. The teams scheduled to make the trip to Las Cruces include New Mexico, Nebraska, Creighton, CSU Bakersfield and Oklahoma State. OSU comes to Las Cruces after losing to Texas in the College World Series semifinal in Oklahoma City last June. Nebraska is making its second consecutive appearance in the Troy Cox Classic after winning four out of their five games in last years classic.
The Aggies are back at the Softball Complex the following weekend for the NM State Round Robin (Mar. 4-5) where the team is scheduled to compete in four more games against UTEP and Northern Colorado.
Finally, NM State concludes their string of multi-team events with a trip to Fresno, Calif. for the Bulldog Classic (Mar 9-11). The Aggies will square off twice with Fresno State before taking on CSU Bakersfield once again, and UC Santa Barbara to close out the weekend.
After the Bulldog Classic, the Aggies will only have four non-conference games remaining on their schedule starting with a two-game double-header at Arizona (Mar. 15). The other two games will be one game matchups with UNM (Mar. 28) and UTEP (Apr. 11). The remainder of Aggies schedule will feature 24 conference games set to be played as three-game series.
NM State will play four series on the road – at Utah Valley (Mar. 17-18), at Utah Tech (Mar. 24-25), at Tarleton (Apr. 14-15) and at Stephen F. Austin (Apr. 28-29) – and four series on at home – vs GCU (Mar. 31-Apr. 1), Sam Houston (Apr. 7-8), UT Arlington (Apr. 21-22) and Abilene Christian (May 5-6) – before closing out the regular season.
