NM State Set to Host Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

| By:

Eleven Aggies will take the course for the two-day tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Beginning Monday at 8:15 a.m., golf fans will be in for a treat as the only home tournament of the year for NM State men's golf tees off. The Aggies will host 11other teams in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, alongside a strong field of individual competitors.

A tournament named after a man who did so much for the NM State golf program, "The Wimberly" takes on even more meaning this year. Last month, PGA of America announced Wimberly as one of the selections to this year's Hall of Fame class. Previously, Wimberly had been inducted into both the Golf Coaches of America Hall of Fame, New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame, New Mexico State Athletics Hall of Fame, and the University of New Mexico Hall of Fame.

Javier Delgadillo will tee off as the Aggies top member in the lineup when action kicks off on Monday. Delgadillo will be joined by River Smalley, Alexandre Bauduin, Alvaro Morales, and Ethan Klose.

Six Aggies – Vari Mariscal, Anthony Lara, Lance Christensen Jr., Joseph Robson, Nizar Bourehim, and Logan Morris – will all compete in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate as individuals. The tournament will be the first of the Las Cruces native Morris' collegiate career

The Field
12 teams will compete in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, beginning Monday. NM State will be joined by Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, Incarnate Word, Texas Southern, Texas A&M – Commerce, Western New Mexico, New Mexico Junior College, Odessa College, South Mountain Community College, Weatherford College, and Mesalands Community College. The field will also feature 17 individuals, including six from NM State.

The Format
The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate will take on a different format for the 2023 edition. Last year, the teams stayed together in groupings throughout the event. For the 2023 running, teams will compete in a more traditional format and will be paired with foes from other schools. The event will be just two days in length, featuring 36 holes of action on Monday.
