DALLAS – Earning a multitude of athletic honors throughout her NM State career,
Maggie Gibbs now adds another to her collection. On Tuesday afternoon Conference USA announced its 2023 All-Academic Team, honoring six male and six female cross country student-athletes.
The lone Aggie to make the list, Gibbs, maintains a 4.0 GPA in Educational Studies, with a focus on autism spectrum disorders.
During the 2023 cross country season, the graduate student from Peoria, Ariz., proved herself as one of the top performers for the Crimson & White, opening the year with a first-place finish at the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open, setting a personal best in the 5k with a time of 17:13.7.
Gibbs set another personal best in the 6k when the Aggies traveled to the Arturio Barrios Invitational, crossing the line in 41
st with a time of 20:32.0. To close the conference season, Gibbs earned Second Team All-CUSA honors after finishing in 14
th with a mark of 22:19.1 in the 6k. Making her fourth appearance at the NCAA Mountain Regionals, she concluded her cross country career by posting a time of 20:52.0 to finish in 49
th – her best finish.
Gibbs now prepares for the track & field season, set to begin in the spring semester. Last season, her performances in the 5000m and 10,000m helped propel the Aggies to their first outdoor track & field conference championship since 2004, while helping the indoor track & field team to a conference title in 2020.
