LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State is back in the win column, and they returned in dominant fashion as it defeated Montana State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Complex.
DOUBLES
- With Montana State only fielding five players, the Aggies opened doubles play just one match away from earning a one-point advantage as Dora Kurdi and Natsuki Nishimura picked up a win by default at the No. 3 spot.
- After the Bobcats earned a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot, the Aggies' No. 2 duo in Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen teamed up to defeat Montana State's Felicia Jayasaputra and JJ Chen by a score of 6-4 – securing the doubles point for NM State.
SINGLES
- With a win by default at the No. 6 spot in hand, the Aggies needed just two wins in singles action to claim victory in the match. NM State would eventually go on to win four of the five remaining singles matches.
- The first Aggie to wrap up her match was Bella Nguyen who picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Abby Riitters to mark the senior's first solo win of the season.
- Over at the No. 2 spot, Lisa Zhu claimed the Aggies' most controlling win as she walked away from the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mirte Van Baelen to clinch the match for NM State
- Miranda Bishard's win then pushed the Aggies ahead 5-0 after she defeated JJ Chen 6-4, 6-2.
- After an extended second set, Anna Pinaieva snagged her second win at the No. 1 spot this season – defeating Marta Garcia-Reboredo 6-2, 7-6 (3).
UP NEXT
The Aggies will continue their extended homestand after taking on Montana State as they get set to welcome Incarnate Word and Northern Arizona on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, respectively. The Aggies match against the Cardinals is scheduled to begin at 2:30 while the Lumberjacks will take the court against NM State at 9 a.m.
