LAFAYETTE, La. – A less than ideal start to the tournament hampered NM State on Monday. The Aggies sat in 13th place of the 14-team field following round one. In the second round, NM State slid into a tie for 12th place with SMU. Both the Aggies and the Mustangs sit at 611 (+43) after 36 holes of golf. NM State, SMU, and Louisiana Tech will be grouped together for the final round of competition.
Aidan Thomas posted the low score for NM State, shooting a 74 in the opening round. Thomas birdied the fourth hole in route to a three-over start.
Also in the opening round,
Garrison Smith birdied a team-leading three times. Unfortunatley, the birdies were not able to negate a roller coaster round for Smith, who sat at nine-over before heading into the second round.
After combining for one birdie in the opening round,
Alexandre Bauduin and
Javier Delgadillo both birdied on back-to-back holes in the second round. Delgadillo got the rally going on holes 13 and 14 before Bauduin converted on 16 and 17. Bauduin also opened the second round with seven consecutive pars.
Bauduin finished the second round with a 70 (-1) on his scorecard – The lone Aggie to shoot below par on Monday. Entering the final round, Bauduin sits in a tie for ninth place.
The final round from the 38
th Annual Louisiana Classics will air live on ESPN+ and Aggie fans can watch the team throughout the final day.
