NM State Closes the Opening Weekend of WAC Play with a Win Over Seattle U

Aggies now hit the road for matches against UT Arlington and UTRGV next weekend.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – With two WAC matches in the books, Head Coach Emily Wang has the Aggies off to a strong start as they took down Seattle U 5-2 on Sunday at the NM State Tennis Center.

DOUBLES
  • After a commanding win over Utah Tech on Friday to start league play, the Aggies continued their winning ways into Sunday as they won all three doubles matches against the Redhawks. Dora Kurdi and Valeriia Ivanovskaia combined for their second straight win together as they breezed by the duo of Shuangui Huang, winning 6-1.
  • NM State's No. 2 tandem also looked strong as they tallied a 6-2 victory over Seattle U's Mieria Fehr and Lola Tavcar to secure the doubles point for the Aggies.
  • Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu then picked up a win of their own as they defeated the Rehawks' No. 1 doubles team consisting of Liliya Dimova and Elena Kraleva by a score of six sets to four.
SINGLES
  • Needing only three singles wins to secure the match win, the Aggies' Bella Nguyen, Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Anna Pinaieva locked things up in the first three matches that went final. Ivanovskaia would be the first Aggie to win her match as she managed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lola Tovcar at the No. 3 spot.
  • Long Beach, Calif., native Bella Nguyen then closed out a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jade Quintana at the No. 6 position.
  • Anna Pinaieva then earned her seventh singles win of the season and the Aggies' fourth team point of the match as she put together a 6-4, 7-5 win over Seattle U's No. 1 player Elena Kraleva.
  • Lisa Zhu would be the fourth and final Aggie to pick up a win as she bounced back from a first-set loss to win her match 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot over Lilya Dimova
