SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Success and confidence from the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate seem to be carrying over through the first day of the Desert Mountain Collegiate for NM State men's golf. The Aggies finished the opening day in a tie for second place with Santa Clara. The Aggies trail just No. 22 Mississippi State heading into Sunday.
Play was suspended on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. MT due to darkness. The second round will resume at 8:00 a.m. MT on Sunday with the third round to follow immediately.
Aidan Thomas is once again leading the charge for NM State over the weekend. Thomas sits in a tie for fourth place at two under. Thomas has birdied five times in the suspended second round with six holes to play.
Playing as the one and two in NM State's lineup,
Alexandre Bauduin and
Javier Delgadillo are living up to expectations. Delgadillo is following up a top-ten finish in Nevada with a top-twenty spot following the first day in Arizona. Bauduin and Delgadillo are tied for 19th, both sitting at two over.
As an individual,
Alvaro Morales carded an eagle on the ninth hole on Monday. Morales finished his first round shooting a 74 (+2) and will resume play at five-over in the second round.
First Day Notes
· As a team, NM State is shooting 3.99 on Par 4s – The lowest of any team in the field. Louisiana Monroe sits in second, shooting 4.06.
· The Aggies sank 30 birdies on Saturday, the second most among tournament teams. Mississippi State leads the field with 32.
· Shooting a 3.76 on Par 4s,
Aidan Thomas has the second-lowest score among players in the Desert Mountain Collegiate.
