Singles Play Powers Aggies' Win Over Idaho State

NM State tops Bengals 6-1 in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – NM State took on its second opponent in two days as they battled with Idaho State on Saturday morning. The Aggies earned their first win away from the NM State Tennis Complex as they defeated the Bengals 6-1 with all six points coming from singles action.
 
DOUBLES
  • The No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles matchups looked promising for the Aggies, however, Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu would suffer a narrow 5-7 defeat to ISU's Lola O'Lideadha and Sol O'Lideadha. Meanwhile, Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen dropped a 4-7 decision to Leak Kuruvilla and Hana Cho.
 
SINGLES
  • Bella Nguyen fought back from the doubles loss to make quick work of her opponent in singles action as she defeated Olivia Mikkelson 6-2, 6-1.
  • Shortly after Nguyen's win, Valeriia Ivanovskaia claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sol O'Lideadha on the No. 3 line.
  • Anna Pinaieva then tallied her fourth win at the top position – knocking off Hana Cho of Idaho State by a score of 6-4, 6-3.
  • Lisa Zhu increased her win total to six when she earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lola O'Lideadha.
  • Senior Miranda Bishard then pulled out a 7-5, 4-0 win over Leah Kuruvilla at the No. 5 position.
  • Finally, Natsuki Nishimura secured the only three-set win of the day as she and Idaho State's Megan Lang-Gould traded blows before Nishimura closed out the match with a a 10-2 win in the tiebreaker. Prior to that, Nishimura fell in the opening set 4-6 before earning a 7-5 win in the second set to force the third set.
 
UP NEXT
The Aggies now return home on March 10 for a match with I-10 rival UTEP at the NM State Tennis Center. The match between the Aggies and Miners is set to kick off at 10 a.m.
