BRYAN, Texas –
After entering the second round of the Aggie Invitational in a tie for eleventh place, NM State men's golf gained some ground, sliding into a for ninth place heading into Tuesday's final action. The Aggies look to pass No. 41 LSU and sit just six shots back of moving into a tie with No. 24 Baylor for fourth.
 
Freshman Javier Delgadillo leads the Aggies after the opening day, shooting 140 (-4) over 36 holes. Delgadillo's second round helped launch NM State up the leaderboard as he shot a career-best 67 (-5), powered by four consecutive birdies to open the round. Heading into the final day, Delgadillo sits just three shots behind leader Max Kennedy of Louisville.
 
Garrison Smith also remains inside the top 25 in Bryan, shooting an even 144 on Monday. Both of Smith's rounds were a clean 72 as the Texas native remains tied for twentieth.
 
Round One Notes
  • After 18 holes, NM State sat tied with Florida Gulf Coast for 11th place, shooting 295. The Aggies sat just one shot behind No. 47 Houston, who fired a team 294.
  • Garrison Smith led the Aggies through the first round, carding an even 72 and tying for 19th place.
  • Javier Delgadillo was right behind Smith, firing a 73 (+1) in the opening round.
  • Aidan Thomas led the Aggies with five birdies in the opening round en route to a 76 (+4)
 
Round Two Notes
  • The Aggies gained some ground in the second round, moving into a tie with No. 41 LSU for ninth place.
  • NM State sits just six shots behind No. 24 Baylor for a fourth place tie.
  • Javier Delgadillo caught fire to open the second round, birdieing each of the first four holes.
  • Delgadillo posted a career-low round, shooting a 67 (-5).
  • Aidan Thomas went on a similar stretch, birdieing four of the five holes between 12 and 16.
  • Thomas and Garrison Smith both finished at par or better in the second round, shooting 70 (-2) and 72 (E), respectively.
