ARLINGTON, Texas – There are hot streaks and then there is the stretch that Aggie first baseman
Kayla Bowen is currently on.
For the second consecutive week, Bowen was named WAC Hitter of the Week after her performance at the plate helped the Aggies to a series win over Sam Houston.
Bowen dominated for the second straight week as she finished the three-game series against the Bearkats with three home runs, eight RBIs and a double while slashing a staggering .667/.750/1.778 in nine at-bats.
Most of Bowen's success came on Friday when she finished 5-7 at the plate while hitting all three of her home runs and driving in all eight of her weekend RBIs as the Aggies swept the doubleheader.
In the last two weeks, the graduate student from Fresno, Calif., has posted a .550 batting average, recorded 11 RBIs on 11 hits and crushed five home runs to pace the Aggies in all four statistical categories.
With this week's selection, Bowen becomes the first WAC softball player to tally back-to-back weekly awards this season while also being this year's only two-time WAC Hitter of the Week. She also claims the first back-to-back hitter of the week selections since NM State's
Nikki Butler did so in 2021.
Bowen and the Aggies will return to action this evening when they collide with UTEP in the Battle of I-10 in El Paso, Texas. Fans interested in following the action against the Miners can do so via
