NM State in Sixth at PING Cougar Classic

Garrison Smith is tied for fourteenth after 36 holes

PROVO, Utah – After 36 holes in Utah, NM State still has a chance to make some noise at the PING Cougar Classic. The Aggies entered the second round in ninth place before climbing three spots to finish in sixth place for the day. Just one shot separates third, fourth, fifth, and sixth places so NM State could quickly make a run up the leaderboard on Saturday.  
 
Playing in NM State's fifth spot in the lineup, Garrison Smith posted the best score for the Aggies on Friday. Smith shot a 140 (-4) over the first 36 holes, settling into a tie for fourteenth place. Joseph Robson sits just one shot behind Smith, firing a 141 (-3) on Friday. 
 
In the first round, Robson was on fire for NM State, shooting a 67 (-5), powered by six birdies. Aidan Thomas joined the opening round charge with an eagle on seven before birdieing twice on the back nine.  
 
Garrison Smith and Javier Delgadillo led the way for NM State in the second round. Smith posted the Aggies' low score, firing a 70 (-2), including a 33 (-3) on the back nine. Delgadillo was blistering hot for a four-hole stretch, birdieing four times between holes four and seven to pace a 71 (-1).

 
Round One Notes 
  • Aidan Thomas carded an eagle on seven. 
  • Joseph Robson fired four consecutive birdies between holes 10-13. 
  • Robson finished with a 67 (-5) following the opening round.  
  • As a team, the Aggies recorded just one double-bogey or worse in the first 18 holes.  
  • The Aggies found success on the fifteenth hole, shooting -4 with four birdies on the hole.  
  • On the contrary, NM State struggled on the fourth hole, going +4 as a team with four bogeys.  
 
Round Two Notes 
  • The Aggies moved up three spots into sixth place following he second round.  
  • Garrison Smith posted the low score for the Aggies in the second round, shooting a 70 (-2). 
  • Smith finished three-under on the back nine with a trio of birdies. 
  • Javier Delgadillo also finished under-par in the second round, shooting 71 (-1). 
  • Delgadillo ripped off four consecutive birdies between holes four and seven.
