ARLINGTON, Texas – In a released issued by the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Monday afternoon, it was announced that
Kayla Bowen has been named the conference hitter of the week following her performance from the plate this past weekend against Grand Canyon.
Bowen, a graduate from Fresno, Calif., went an efficient five for eight from the plate this weekend while tallying a pair of long balls to go with her walk-off home run on Saturday, handing NM State the series victory over GCU.
Bowen's walk-off home run came off the WAC leader in strikeouts and hits allowed, Megan Golden, who was a perfect 8-0 going into Saturdays affair and ranks top 50 in the nation in both categories.
Hitting .352 for the season, Bowen now stands alone as the team leader in batting average while also pacing the team in total hits (32), extra base hits (16) and total bases (59). Additionally, Bowen ranks second on the team in slugging percentage (.648) and on base percentage (.398) and doubles (10).
