ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Finally home in the Land of Enchantment, NM State men's golf looked to get out to a hot start at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque. The results were disappointing on a course that the Aggies know well and NM State will enter the final round in 15th place.
Anthony Lara was the lone Aggie to shoot under-par in a round on Monday. Lara went low with a 70 (-2) in the second round, powered by four birdies. Earlier in the day, Lara had posted a 73 (+1), finishing the day tied for 26th at 143 (-1).
In the opening round,
Javier Delgadillo fired an even 72 with a trio of birdies. The sophomore was three-over through four holes before battling back and finishing the final 12 holes bogey-free. Delgadillo finished the day tied for 42nd after shooting a 144 (E).
Alvaro Morales saw success on the front nine holes, going two-under throughout the stretch on Monday. In the second round, Morales birdied the second hole and remained bogey-free the rest of the way before finishing the round with a 73 (+1). Earlier in the day, Morales birdied holes five and nine to once again shot one-under on the front nine. Entering the final round on Tuesday, Morales is tied for 49th at one-over.
The Aggies will enter the final round on Tuesday in 15th place. As a team, the Aggies shot a 584 (+8) over 36 holes on Monday.
First Round Notes
- Javier Delgadillo posted the Aggies low score in the opening round with a 72 (E)
- Alvaro Morales and Anthony Lara remained right behind Delgadillo, each posting a 73 (+1)
- Ethan Klose posted the final qualifying score for the round, shooting a 76 (+4)
- Delgadillo and Lara both birdied a team-high three times in the first round
Second Round Notes
- Anthony Lara fired a 70 (-2), becoming the lone Aggie to shoot under-par on Monday
- Lara's 70 was his best round as an Aggie
- Lara and Mohamed Nizar Bourehim both birdied four times to lead NM State in the second round
- Alvaro Morales went one-under on the front nine holes
- Morales and Javier Delgadillo both shot a 73 (+1) in the second round.
- All five competing Aggies will be paired with players from Interstate 10 rival UTEP
- Lara will be in a group with players from UTEP, San Diego, and UTSA.
