CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – NM State will return to Las Cruces with an eighth-place finish in its season opener, the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff. LSU secured the tournament title, scoring 844 (-20) as a team, a seven-shot lead over the host, Missouri. Now, the program's focus shifts to gearing up for next week's Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational.
Alvaro Morales concluded two remarkable days of golf with a final round of 73 (+1). Throughout the event, Morales carded a 218 (+2), marking his third-lowest score as an Aggie in this competition and his best round since the 2021 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Morales particularly excelled on the back nine during the final round, shooting two-under with birdies on holes 10, 11, and 15.
Javier Delgadillo and
Alexandre Bauduin wrapped up the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff with a pair of even 72s, marking their best rounds of the young season. Delgadillo ignited on the back nine, achieving a four-under stretch from holes 14 to 18, including his first eagle of the season. In contrast, Bauduin displayed near-flawless performance on the front nine, where he recorded a bogey-free stretch and a birdie, going one-under.
On Sunday, NM State will resume action in Colorado Springs at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, hosted by Air Force. NM State boasts a history of success in this event, including a tie for third place last season. Among the returning players,
Aidan Thomas achieved the best finish in last season's event, securing fourth place with a score of 208 (-8).
