LAS VEGAS – NM State tallied its first match victory of the 2024 campaign as they defeated UC Riverside on the opening day of the UNLV Quad where they will compete in three more duals over the next two days.
Friday, the Aggies beat the Highlanders 4-1 after earning the doubles point and a trio of wins in singles action at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
In doubles play, the tandem of
Tobias Wallin and
Gustavo Campos teamed up to take down UCR's Joshua Roth and Justin Lamy by a score of 6-3. Meanwhile,
Itay Feigin and Luca Fé d'Ostiani joined forces to earn a narrow 7-5 victory over Hugo DeGrand and Lucas Suarez – giving the Aggies the edge entering singles.
At the number one spot,
Tobias Wallin flexed his muscles in the first set, winning 6-0 before sealing the win over Joshua Roth with a 6-4 win in the second frame. After UCR was able to earn its lone singles win, a pair of Aggies picked up three-set victories at No. 3 and No. 6.
On line three, Luca Fé d'Ostiani jumped out front with a 6-3 win in the opening set, however, the Highlanders' Lucas Suarez was able to force a third set with a 6-1 win in the second set. Fé d'Ostiani then clinched the match with a 6-4 win in the third and final set.
Patrick Lohmann then pushed the Aggies over the top as he bested Ryan Huynh – winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to tally his first win of the young season.
UP NEXT
Tomorrow, NM State will return to the Fertitta Tennis Complex for back-to-back matches against Weber State (10:30 a.m. MT) and Hawai'i (3 p.m. MT). Following the two-match Saturday, the Aggies will take on host UNLV on Sunday to wrap up their weekend.
