Aggies Earn Win in Home Bout Versus Weber State

Aggies return home for a match against former WAC foe Tarleton on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. MT.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After a dominant win on Saturday over Western New Mexico, NM State face much tougher competition on Friday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Center. The Aggies proved to be up to the task as they defeated Weber State 5-2 to move to 2-0 on the season.

Despite Weber State earning the win at the No. 1 spot in doubles play, NM State fought hard to earn wins on courts two and three to clinch the doubles point. Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Lisa Zhu partnered to tally a 6-3 win over Sicely Ferreira and Dylan Lolofie. With the win, Ivanovskaia and Zhu move to 2-0 alongside each other this season.

Elsewhere, Whitney Moon and Dora Kurdi used a late surge to pick up a 7-5 win over Kenadee Semenik and Li Yang Ping An – giving NM State the advantage heading into solo play.

Weber State quickly evened the score with a win at No. 6, however, the Aggies responded by winning four of the final five singles matches. The second match to conclude was between the team's top players as Anna Pinaieva got the best of Weber State's Ana Morett, winning 6-3, 6-3.

Later, Valeriia Ivanovskaia secured a 6-2 win in the first set and looked to be in line for her second win of the season. However, her opponent was able to win the second set 6-4. Ivanovskaia then proved tough as she earned a dominant 6-2 win the third set to secure the Aggies' third point of the match.

Natsuki Nishimura then clinched her match at the No. 3 spot as she defeated Dylan Lolofie 6-4, 6-3 to secure the match for the Crimson and White. For good measure, Whitney Moon earned a hard-fought victory over Li Yang Ping An, winning 6-7, 7-6, 10-8.

Additionally, the Aggies' Varvara Nikolaeva tallied 7-6, 6-2 victory over Jessica Hill in the day's lone extra match.
