NM State Opens Spring Season Among Deep Field at the N.I.T

Pair of seniors to lead Aggies in first competition of 2024.

TUCSON, Ariz. – For the first time this spring, the NM State men's golf team will take to the course for a competition as they travel to Omni Tucson National where they will compete in the N.I.T. beginning Monday morning.
 
While in the Grand Canyon State, the Aggies will play in the 54-hole event alongside 17 other teams including the 17th-ranked host Arizona Wildcats. The Aggies will also share the course with No. 4 Arizona State and No. 24 Texas A&M in addition to four other teams receiving votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll and a Stanford program who competed in the 2023 NCAA DI Men's Golf Championship.
 
In their first event of the new year, the Aggies lineup will feature seniors River Smalley and Alvaro Morales, sophomores Javier Delgadillo and Anthony Lara and freshman Vari Mariscal. The Aggies are coming off a fall season that saw the Crimson and White turn in a top-five finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational and a win in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.
 
All 18 teams will play 36 holes on Monday with the final round being played on Tuesday on the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National. The event is open to the public with free admission.
 
Omni Tucson National recently played host to the PGA Tour Champions' Cologaurd Classic from 2015 to 2023. Designed by Robert Van Hagge and Bruce Devlin, the Catalina Course was selected as one of Golf Digest's 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America. In total, the course has hosted over 30 PGA Tour events.

The Field
NM State will join the host, No. 17 Arizona, and No. 4 Arizona State, BYU, Fresno State, Iowa State, RV LMU, Missouri, RV New Mexico, Santa Clara, RV SMU, St. Mary's, Stanford, RV TCU, No. 24 Texas A&M, West Virginia, Wyoming and San Diego
 
The Format
As is typical with collegiate golf tournaments, the N.I.T. will be a 54-hole event. The field will compete for 36-holes on Monday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. MT on the field hole.
 
NM State will be paired with individuals from Wyoming and Arizona in Monday's action. Javier Delgadillo will be the first to tee off for NM State – going off of the 16th tee.
