Aggies Finish in Arizona as Mariscal Posts 67

NM State returns to action on Feb. 19

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Aggies' spring opening weekend has come to a close as they wrapped up the N.I.T. at Omni Tucson National. Following three rounds of play, NM State ended in 16th in the team standings – shooting a combined score of 858 (-6). The Aggies did end the week on an upward trajectory as their final round score of 282 was their lowest combined team score of the event.
 
In the individual competition, the Aggies were paced by Javier Delgadillo who finished tied for 33rd after posting rounds of 73, 66 and 71 to finish six under par. Delgadillo's performance was emphasized by a second-round score of 66. His round featuring five birdies and one eagle was tied for the fourth lowest second-round score of the tournament.
 
Following Delgadillo for the Aggies was Vari Mariscal who closed out his tournament with a final round score of 67 (-5) to propel him to be tied for 67th in the 94-man field. After opening the round with two bogeys in his first three holes, Mariscal turned his day around by birdieing five of the remaining 15 holes while also posting an eagle during the closing stretch.
 
River Smalley ranked third among Aggies on the leaderboard as he finished two-over for the weekend to finish tied for 72nd. Meanwhile, Anthony Lara ended Tuesday in a tie for 75th and Alvaro Morales posted his lowest score of the week in the third round to finish tied for 88th.
