LAS CRUCES, N.M. – In her first weekend of collegiate softball, NM State phenom Desirae Spearman has already picked up hardware. The El Paso native became the first member in program history to win a Conference USA regular-season award when the conference named her the Freshman of the Week on Monday, Feb. 12. Spearman was instrumental in a perfect 4-0 weekend against Monmouth and Abilene Christian, racking up two impressive wins in the circle. Not only did she pitch 13.0 innings without allowing an earned run, but she tallied two home runs, a triple and 5 RBIs at the plate.

As a team, NM State went 4-0 on the weekend, sweeping a Friday doubleheader against Monmouth and a Saturday doubleheader against Abilene Christian. Spearman pitched the nightcap on both days, going seven innings against the Hawks and six versus the Wildcats. The true freshman allowed zero earned runs and struck out 14 batters, including 10 on Saturday.

On top of exceptional pitching, Spearman was productive when up to bat, nailing two home runs and a triple as part of a four-hit, 5-RBI weekend. On the bases, she was successful in two stolen base attempts, and scored five of the Aggies' 26 runs.

Spearman became the first Aggie to win a conference weekly award since Kayla Bowen was named WAC Hitter of the Week on back-to-back occasions on April 3 and 11, 2023. Spearman joined teammates Riley Carley and Kendal Lunar (All-CUSA Preseason Team) as the first Aggies to be recognized by the new league.
