EL PASO, Texas – NM State wrapped up its regular season on Sunday afternoon as they competed against I-10 rival UTEP at the El Paso Tennis Club. The Aggies fell 4-3 to the Miners in a tightly contested match. With the loss, the Aggies drop to 5-14 overall and 2-4 in Conference USA play.
The host Miners took the early lead as they collected wins at No. 1 and No. 3 in doubles action to carry a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Fortunately,
Dora Kurdi would erase this deficit with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Hanna Telzynska at No. 4 to even the score at one point apiece. Then,
Anna Pinaieva notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over UTEP's top player Veronika Lebisova to put the Aggies in front 2-1 wih four singles matches still hanging in the balance.
UTEP would then tie the match at two points with a win at No. 6 before retaking the lead with a three-set win at No. 5.
Lisa Zhu then produced a three-set win of her own to remain perfect in singles play against CUSA opponents. On Sunday, Zhu defeated Elena Dibattista 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 to finish her season 5-0 in league play. However, this would be the final match that the Aggies would win against the Miners as UTEP closed out the match with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on line No. 2.

NM State will now turn its attention to the CUSA Tournament as they get set to travel to Miami, Fla., on April 18-21 to compete in the eight-team tournament.
