WEST POINT, Miss. – NM State opened play at the Mossy Oak Collegiate on Monday as they competed alongside 13 other programs at the Mossy Oak Golf Course. After two rounds, the Aggies are in 13
th place, shooting a combined score of 585 to finish the day nine over par. Meanwhile, Auburn built a comfortable 13-stroke lead to pace the field at 35-under par through two rounds.
Individually,
Anthony Lara was the top-ranking Aggie as the sophomore from Anthony, N.M., carded a pair of 71s to enter round three two under par and in a tie for 18
th. With the strong start, Lara ended the day as one of just 25 players in the 84-player field to leave the course with a two-round score of below par. Lara's day was highlighted by his stellar performance on hole 10 as he eagled the opening hole of the back nine in both the first and second round. With the pair of eagles on the 311-yard par four, he finished as the only player in the field to record multiple eagles.
Javier Delgadillo was the next Aggie down the leaderboard as he finished the day with a two-round score of 146 (+2) to land in a tie for 43
rd. Delgadillo was followed by
River Smalley (T52 - 148, +4),
Alvaro Morales (T56 – 149, +5) and
Vari Mariscal (76 – 153, +9).
Tomorrow the Aggies will be paired with Little Rock and individuals from host Mississippi State. NM State will begin their day on hole 10 with
Vari Mariscal leading the way at 7:30 a.m. MT. Mariscal will be followed by Morales (7:40 a.m.), Smalley (7:50 a.m.), Delgadillo (8 a.m.) and Lara (8:10 a.m.).
