WEST POINT, Miss. – Tuesday afternoon, the NM State men's golf team wrapped up its final tournament ahead of next week's Conference USA Championship. In their final regular season outing, the Aggies finished 14
th while posting a combined score of 891 (+27) at Mossy Oak Golf Course.
Ranked No. 2 in the country, Auburn once again showed why it hopes to end the year with a national championship as it finished first on the team leaderboard and was 34 shots clear of the other 13 competing programs. The individual leaderboard was also dominated by the Tigers as the first five slots were occupied by Auburn players, including tournament co-champions Brendan Valdes (-12) and J.M. Butler (-12).
As it was on through the opening two rounds, NM State was led by
Anthony Lara (71-71-76-218) who finished the 54-hole event two over par to finish in a tie for 30
th place.
Javier Delgadillo (+5) also finished inside the top 50 of the 84-man field as he posted a final-round 75. Meanwhile,
River Smalley (+9) finished tied for 62
nd,
Vari Mariscal (+15) finished tied for 77
th and
Alvaro Morales (+17) finished 80
th.
UP NEXT
NM State will now gather themselves as they prepare for the CUSA Championship which is set to begin on Tuesday, April 23, and will be played at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. There, the Aggies will be joined by Florida International, Jax State, Liberty, LA Tech, Middle Tennessee, Sam Houston, UTEP and Western Kentucky with the champion to be crowned on Wednesday after 54 holes of play.
