NM State Stays Hot, Rolls Past Sam Houston in Series Opener

NM State posts three home runs and a complete performance in an 8–1 win

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - NM State opened its road series at Sam Houston with a late‑inning surge, stacking runs in the middle frames to pull away in a decisive series‑opening win. After trailing 1–0 through two, the Aggies punched across runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh while getting a complete effort in the circle to stay unbeaten in Conference USA play.  

Game  - NM State 8, Sam Houston 1 

Down a run in the fourth, the Aggies flipped the game on Jonnah Aragon's two‑run home run to left, then added a solo shot from Skye Johnson in the fifth to extend the margin. Tamara Carranza opened the sixth with a solo homer and Skye Johnson later roped an RBI double, before Lauren Garcia put the game on ice with a two‑run homer in the seventh. In the circle, Faith Aragon went the distance, striking out eight and limiting the Bearkats to one run on eight hits.  

NOTABLES 

  • Jonnah Aragon homered and finished with 2 RBIs, adding a two‑hit night from the two‑spot in the order.  

  • Skye Johnson went 2‑for‑4 with a solo homer and an RBI double to pace the middle innings. 

  • Lauren Garcia delivered the two‑run homer in the seventh and drove in two.  

  • Tamara Carranza tagged a solo home run in the sixth and added an RBI earlier to finish with 2 RBIs. 

  • Destan Burks reached three times (2‑for‑3, double, walk) and scored a run. 

  • Faith Aragon earned the complete‑game win with 8 strikeouts over 7.0 IP (8 H, 1 R).  

NEXT UP  

NM State continues its road set in Huntsville with Game Two against Sam Houston on Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex. Riding the momentum from an 8–1 series‑opening win, the Aggies look to secure the series and remain unbeaten in Conference USA play.
