NM State’s Late Push Falls Short in 3–1 Finale at Sam Houston

Hair’s pinch-hit homer highlights seventh-inning rally

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - NM State wrapped up its weekend in Huntsville with a tight, low‑scoring matchup on Sunday as the Aggies battled Sam Houston in the series finale. The pitching and defense kept NM State within striking distance throughout, but a three‑run fourth inning proved to be the difference. A late pinch‑hit home run put the Aggies on the board, though the comeback ultimately fell just short in a 3–1 decision.

Game – Sam Houston 3, NM State 1

Both teams opened with three scoreless frames before Sam Houston broke through with a three‑run fourth, highlighted by a two‑run homer. NM State threatened in the fifth and sixth before Joleeanna Hair delivered a pinch‑hit solo shot in the seventh to spark a late push, but the Aggies couldn't extend the rally. Faith Aragon kept the game close with a complete‑game performance, allowing just four hits while striking out seven.

NOTABLES

  • Joleeanna Hair provided a pinch‑hit solo home run in the seventh to break up the shutout.

  • Faith Aragon tossed a complete game (6.0 IP), allowing 4 hits and 3 runs while striking out 7.

  • Offensively, NM State drew three walks but was held to a single hit on the afternoon.
