LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State Men's Golf Coach Mike Dirks has signed a contract extension to remain the program's leader through the 2028-29 season, Director of Athletics Joe Fields announced Thursday morning.
 
"I'm excited to announce the extension of Coach Dirks," Fields said. "He has been an exceptional leader for our student-athletes, helping them succeed both on the course and in the classroom. His passion for New Mexico State is evident in everything he does, and we're proud to have him continue leading our program. The future is bright under his leadership, and we're excited for what's ahead."
 
"I'm very excited to continue to build upon the success our program has shown with NCAA Regional appearances, both individually and as a team," Coach Dirks stated. "We have amazing players, the best assistant coach in Coach Mike McGilton, and a schedule that allows us to play against the best in college golf. I would like to thank Joe Fields for believing in me and allowing me to be the Head Men's Golf Coach at New Mexico State."
 
Dirks recently completed his 15^th season at NM State and coached coach Javier Delgadillo to a Conference USA individual title and an appearance at the 2026 NCAA Marana Regional. Across his 37-year coaching career, Dirks guided his teams to 16 NCAA Regional appearances, including five trips with the Aggies since his arrival in 2011.
 
Most recently, he led the Aggies to an appearance in the 2025 NCAA Auburn Regional after the team earned an at-large bid – the first at-large selection for any NM State program since 2008. At the Auburn Regional, the Aggies finished eighth overall, recording their best regional finish since 2013.
 
Dirks also helped lead the NM State program to conference championships and NCAA Regional appearances in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2021. Overall, he has led his teams to eight national championship appearances, 16 regional appearances and 12 conference titles. He has also coached six individuals to seven NCAA Regional appearances, including Aggies Justin Shin, Zach Fullerton, Aidan Thomas (twice), Garrison Smith and Javier Delgadillo.
 
Dirks has coached 20 GCAA All-America Scholars throughout his career, including 13 Aggies who have combined for 18 selections. He has earned 10 conference Coach of the Year honors, including four WAC Coach of the Year awards while leading NM State. In total, he has coached 10 All-Americans, six league individual medalists and 43 all-conference honorees.
