Biography
2017-18: Spring: Helped lead NM State to its third WAC Tournament title in four years and fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history…earned Second-Team All-WAC honors in singles and second-team honors in doubles with teammate Mauri Benitez…earned the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team for District 7 as selected by CoSIDA for the second-straight year...also a three-time Academic All-WAC honoree…finished the year with 17 wins in singles, 4-1 in WAC play, and 21-11 overall in doubles play with Benitez – including a 4-1 mark in conference action…named WAC Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 6...helped NM State beat Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico (3/15) for the first time since 2010 with his 6-3 6-2 win over Bart Van Leijsen at No. 2 singles…took down Alex Pozo of UMKC (4/29) 6-2, 6-3 in the championship match of the WAC Tournament. Fall: Won his singles flight to kick off his junior season at the Aggie Invitational (9/15-17) while also taking down two of Arizona’s doubles team 8-6 and 7-5 with Benitez…advanced to the finals of doubles play the Wildcat Invitational (9/22-24)…made it to the round of 32 in doubles play with Benitez while playing in the round of 64 of singles action at the ITA Regional Championships (Oct. 18-20).
2016-17: Spring: Helped lead NM State to its third-straight Western Athletic Conference regular-season title…was second on the team with a 24-7 overall record in singles action and earned First-Team All-WAC honors…teamed up with Mauri Benitez for 16 doubles victories, including a 4-1 mark in league play while grabbing Second-Team All-WAC accolades for doubles…was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-WAC honoree…started the dual season with four-straight wins…defeated Louisiana’s (3/26) No. 3 doubles player, Michael Kritzinger 6-4, 6-4…took down Nevada’s (3/12) Augustin Delahodde 7-5, 6-4…ended the season with nine-straight singles victories and had a six-match winning-streak in doubles play near the end of the season...one of three players to earn a victory in the WAC Championship match. Fall: Opened the season with four-straight victories and captured the singles flight title at the Aggie Invitational…opened the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with a win over Northern Arizona’s (10/23) doubles team…took down Sean Baklini of UNM (10/9) at the Balloon Fiesta Tournament 6-2, 6-2 in singles.
2015-16: Spring: Saw action in all 22 matches during dual season as a freshman…helped guide NM State to its second-straight Western Athletic Conference Championships and NCAA Tournament bid…earned second-team All-WAC in singles after going 20-13 his freshman year and 4-1 in conference action… named to Academic All-WAC Freshman/Transfer team…finished season 12-5 at No. 4 singles slot…was 16-15 overall in doubles on the season and 3-2 in WAC play…picked up his first dual victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Vincente Varas of Gonzaga (1/30)…won his first two WAC matches with wins over Seattle U (3/24) and UTRGV (3/25)…battled back in the WAC Tournament championship match to defeat UMKC’s (5/1) Mike Psarros 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 at No.4 singles…ousted Nebraska’s (2/13) No. 3 doubles team 6-3 for first dual doubles victory…won seven-straight doubles matches from Feb. 28-March 26, all at the No. 2 doubles position. Fall: Defeated his first three singles opponents of his college career and advanced to the championship match before falling to teammate Enrique Asmar 6-7, 6-2, 6-3…picked up a pair of wins over Sean Baklini of No. 40 New Mexico (3-6, 6-3, 10-5) and Jesse Sprinkel of No. 21 Minnesota (5-7, 6-1, 10-5)…won all three matches at the Balloon Fiesta Invite, including a win over Power 5 opponent in Will Adkission (6-3, 7-6) of Arizona…picked up a win in consolation play over Peter Minagh-Fleming of Montana 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships…teamed up with Alvaro Hobbs to defeat Jean-Laurent Pageault and Pablo Santibanez of No. 27 Western New Mexico 8-4…lost in the quarterfinals, but defeated Abilene Christian’s duo of Hunter Holman and Sebastian Langdon 6-3 in their very next match…played with Donovan Cellupica-Towers to open the Balloon Fiesta Invite with a win over Air Force’s doubles team 8-5…followed up with a win over teammates Nicholas Spring and Asmar 8-7…picked up an 8-2 win over Northern Arizona’s Jackson Lee and Thomas Fisher in the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships.
Prior to NM State: Reached a Netherlands national singles ranking of 53 and 110 in doubles…was at one point ranked No. 10 in junior rankings for singles.
Personal: Son of Frank de Haan and Marco van Doormalen…has two siblings, brother Ties and sister Bibianne Olij…majoring in aerospace engineering.
