Academic Tracking of Student-Athletes after their initial semester at NMSU
 
ASPSC policies and guidelines will be based off the student’s pervious semester GPA. Cumulative GPA is used to define academic standing according to University policies (see page 2).
 
All incoming student-athletes are required to complete eight hours of study hall their first semester at NMSU. After their first semester, all freshmen are strongly advised to continue with the eight hours of study hall despite the previous semester’s grades.
 
Tier 1 Student received below a 2.00 semester GPA. Student at risk of academic probation (depending on previous semester's GPA).
  • Student required to continue with 8 hours of study hall per week. Within these 8 hours, 1 hour will be a required meeting with a mentor and at least 1 hour will be a required meeting with a tutor.
  • Student will be required to set up office hours with each professor and report back about the sessions to mentor or advisor.
  • Student will be required to check in with ASPSC advisor once every two weeks.
  • Professor progress reports will be sent out by ASPSC staff member and/or student once every two weeks.
  • Student must receive permission from team's advisor PRIOR to using the study hall passport to earn study hall hours outside the Fulton Center.
 
Tier 2  Student received between a 2.00 and 2.50 semester GPA.
  • Student required to complete 6 hours of study hall per week. Within the 6 hours, 1 hour will be a required meeting with a mentor and 1 hour will be a required meeting with a tutor or use of the campus Writing Center or Math Success Center.
  • Student will be required to check in with ASPSC advisor once every two weeks.
  • Professor progress reports will be sent out by ASPSC staff member and/or student once every two weeks.
  • Student must receive permission from team's advisor PRIOR to using the study hall passport to earn study hall hours outside the Fulton Center.
 
Tier 3 Student received between a 2.51 and a 3.00 semester GPA.
  • Students required to complete 3 hours of study hall. Tutors will be strongly encouraged based on course load.
  • Student will be required to check in with ASPSC advisor once a month.
  • Professor progress reports will be sent out by ASPSC staff member and/or student once every month (Beginning of February, March, April, and another before finals).
 
Tier 4  Student received between a 3.01 and a 4.00 semester GPA.
  • Professor progress reports will be sent out twice a semester by ASPSC staff member and/or student (at the beginning of the semester and prior to finals week).
