Biography

2009 Outdoor (Sophomore): Arenas was one of the most improved Aggies on the team in 2009.  She earned first team All-WAC status from her performance at the 2009 Championships (May 13-16), in Logan, Utah, when she brought home the silver medal in the 10,000-meter run.  She crossed the line with a time of 37:43.36, which also places fourth on NM State's all-time record list.  Also at the WAC Championships, Arenas placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:56.17. Arenas recorded her strongest 1,500-meter time at the Long Beach State Invitational (April 18), when she clocked a time of 4:45.9.

Indoor: As her standout sophomore campaign continued, Arenas tabbed first team All-WAC honors after a brilliant performance in the 5,000-meter run at the 2009 WAC Championships.  She posted a second-place finish with a time of 17:35.71, and also broke the NM State school record with this performance.  Arenas registered a season-best mile time at the New Mexico Invitational (Feb. 7), when she clocked 5:09.97 for a fourth-place finish overall. Also at the meet, Arenas placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:16.62.

Cross Country: In 2008, Arenas stepped out onto the course as one of the most improved Aggies. As a consistent top 3 placer, Arenas recorded her strongest finish of the season at the Arizona State Invitational, (Oct. 3), with a third-place finish in a time of 18:46.50, en route to a first-place team finish.  Arenas' fastest time of the year came in Santa Clara, Calif., at the Santa Clara Invitational (Oct. 18) when she posted a 5k time of 17:44, which was good for 11th place.  At the final meet of the season, the NCAA Mountain Regional (Nov. 15), in Fort Collins, Colo., Arenas led the Aggies across the finish line.

2008 Outdoor (Freshman): Arenas competed in the distance events for the Aggies during the outdoor season.  At the WAC Championships (May 15-17), Arenas posted a personal-best mark in the 10,000-meter with a time of 39:44.06, which placed her eighth on the NM State all-time record list.  Arenas recorded her fastest time in the 1,500-meter run at the UTEP Invitational (April 12), with a time of 4:55.62, and at the first meet of the season, the Willie Williams Invitational (March 21), Arenas clocked a personal-best time of 19:06.29 in the 5,000-meter run.

Indoor: Arenas competed in the distances events for the Aggies during the indoor season.  At the Southwest Host Classic (Feb. 16), she recorded a personal-best time of 11:00.85, which placed her fourth overall.  In the 5,000-meter run, Arenas increased her personal-best by 32 seconds as she clocked a performance of 19:08.85 at the 2008 Indoor WAC Championships (Feb. 28-March 1).  In the mile run and the 1,000-meter run, Arenas tallied her best times at the Texas Tech Invitational (Jan. 18-19).  She crossed the finish line at 5:38.66 in the mile run and at 19:53.66 in the 1,000-meter run.

Cross Country: Arenas ran in all six races in 2007 for NM State.  At the Santa Clara Invitational, Arenas clocked a time of 19:07 and placed 82nd overall, which was her fastest time of the season.  At the Aggies lone home race of the season, the Kachina Classic, Arenas recorded a season-best finish of 12th place in a time of 20:00.

High School: Arenas is a distance runner from Las Cruces, N.M. (Mayfield HS) where she placed third at the district competition in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:55. She also earned the silver medal at the Junior Olympic Regional competition, which was a 5k race.

Personal: Arenas is the daughter of Clara Lopez and Erasmo Arenas. She is double majoring in accounting and criminal justice.
