Biography

2013 Outdoor (Junior): Porter focused on distance runs in the 2013 outdoor track and field season.  Porter competed in the 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m runs for the Aggies.  In the 1,500m, Porter posted her best time at the Willie Williams Classic (March 15) and competed in the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May 8).  Porter ran her best 3,000m at the UTEP Springtime 2013 (March 23) and posted her best 5,000m run at the Bobcat Classic (April 26).

2013 Indoor (Junior): Porter spent the 2013 indoor track and field season running the 1-mile for the Aggies.  Porter posted her best 1-mile time of 5:24.33 at the WAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 21).  Porter also ran the 800m at the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational (Jan. 25) and the 4,000m distance medley at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 1).  Porter also competed at the New Mexico Cherry and Silver Invitational (Jan. 18) and the Don Kirby Open (Feb. 9).

2012 Cross Country (Junior): Porter competed in four events for the Aggies in the 2012 cross country season.  Porter’s best overall performance came at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational (Sept. 7) where she finished sixth for NM State and ninth overall with a time of 19:47.89.  Porter ran her best time in the 5K at the Grand Canyon Invitational (Oct. 6) where she finished seventh for NM State and 23rd overall with a time of 19:34.2.  Porter also competed at the Lobo Invitational (Aug. 31) where she finished 20th overall in a time of 20:21.7 and the Kachina Classic (Sept. 15) where she finished 24th overall in a time of 19:39.

2012 Outdoor (Sophomore): Porter was named as a WAC All-Academic athlete in the 2012 season.  Porter ran in the 800m and the 1,500m, as well as relay events for the Aggies in the 2012 outdoor season.  Porter posted her best time in the 800m at the Michael Johnson/Dr. Pepper Classic (April 21) with a time of 2:21.04.  Porter’s career-best time in the 1,500m came at the WAC Championships (May 8) when she ran a time of 4:49.46 to place seventh overall.  Porter’s best team finish in the 4x400m relay came at the New Mexico Tailwind Invitational (April 6).

2012 Indoor (Sophomore): Porter was named to the second team all-WAC for the distance medley.  Porter was named to the academic all-WAC team in 2012.  Porter spent a majority of her sophomore season running the 1-mile for the Aggies.  Porter posted her best time for the 1-mile at the WAC Championships (Feb. 23) with a mark of 5:25.26.  Porter also ran the 3,000m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 3) and the 800m at the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational (Jan. 27).  

Cross Country 2011 (Sophomore): Porter received All-Academic Honors for the WAC in 2011.  Porter put together a good season in 2011, running in all but one event for the Aggies.  Porter posted her best time of 19:30.9 in the 6K at the Kachina Classic (Sept. 17), placing her 23rd overall and 10th for NM State. Porter posted her season-best finish at the Grand Canyon Invitational when she finished 17th overall and third for NM State with a time of 19:42.6.  Porter also posted impressive times at the Lobo Invitational (Sept. 3) and the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree (Oct. 1) and was invited to both the Pre-Nationals (Oct. 16) and the WAC Championships (Oct. 29).

Outdoor 2011 (Freshman): Porter competed equally as intense during the outdoor season, earning a trip to the WAC Championships for outdoor track as well.  Porter opened up the season by running her best time of 5:01.64 for the 1,500m at the 2011 Willie Williams Classic.  Porter posted her best time for the 800m of 2:17.47 at the WAC Championships.  Porter also ran the 4x400m relay, posting her best time of 3:58.62 at the Bobcat Invitational.  

Indoor 2011 (Freshman): Porter’s effort during the indoor track season was enough to earn her a spot on the WAC Championships squad.  Porter ran the 800m throughout the season, posting her best time of 2:19.98 at the WAC Indoor Championships.  Porter also ran the 4,000m distance medley, posting her best time of 12:32.74 at the WAC Championships as well.  
Cross Country 2010 (Freshman): Porter ran in the first three events for NM State cross country during her freshman season.  Porter finished 42nd overall and 12th for NM State in her first event as an Aggie at the Lobo Invitational with a time of 20:42.4.  At the Kachina Classic, Porter finished 26th overall and 10th for NM State with a time of 20:13.5.  Porter broke into the top 10 at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational with a time of 19:12.7, good for 10th overall and fourth for NM State.  

High School: Porter came in fourth at state in 800m in 2008 with a personal record of 2:19 and also helped her track and field squad to the state championship in 2007.  Porter lettered all four years in cross country and track and field while attending La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M. Porter won the cross country fastest freshman award in 2007, cross country most improved award in 2008 and has a personal record in the 5k of 20:01.

Personal: Porter is the daughter of Tim and Christine Porter. She was born in Albuquerque, N.M., and plans to major in civil engineering.
