Biography
2011 (Junior): Ruybalid
was named to both the All-Academic team and 1st-Team All-Conference for the
Western Athletic Conference in 2011. Ruybalid
had a spectacular season for NM State in 2011; finishing first for NM State in six of the seven events he participated in.
Ruybalid posted his best time in the 8K at the Oklahoma State Cowboy
Jamboree (Oct. 1) when he finished first for NM State and 49th overall with a
time of 25:06.31. Ruybalid's best overall finish came at the Kachina Classic (Sept. 17) when he finished first for NM State and second overall. Ruybalid also finished
first for NM State and fifth overall at the Lobo Invitational (Sept. 3) with a
time of 25:21.8. Ruybalid finished first
for NM State at the Pre-Nationals (Oct. 16) as well, posting a time of
25:27. In the Western Athletic
Conference Championships, Ruybalid finished first for NM State and sixth
overall with a time of 25:49.1. Ruybalid
concluded his season at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships by finishing
second for NM State and 45th overall with a time of 31:51.3 in the 10K.
2010 (Sophomore): Ruybalid was one of the Aggies top
runners during the 2010 season. Ruybalid finished 15th at the WAC Championships
with a time of 25:30, which was one spot off from making second team All-WAC.
Ruybalid also had solid finishes at the Kachina Classic (Sep. 18) and the Lobo
Invitational (Sep. 4), where he finished 11th in 25:50.3 and 23rd in 25:57.1
respectively. Ruybalid competed in six of the Aggies seven meets.
2009 (Freshman): Ruybalid scored points for the
Aggies in each of the seven events he competed in during the 2009 season. He
placed 16th at the 2009 edition of the WAC Championships with a time of 27:10.5
and helped the team to fourth overall. That is a two spot improvement from the
previous championship. His best time of the season was 21:39.5 at the Lori
Fitzgerald Invitational (9/10) in Santa Teresa, N.M., where he placed 11th
overall. He helped the Aggies to third place at their home Kachina Classic (9/19)
with a time of 27:16.6. With a time of 25 minutes and 46 seconds, the freshman
placed 59th in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational (10/17) and was the fourth
from NM State to cross the line. At the NCAA Mountain Regionals (11/4),
Ruybalid finished in 58th and was just the sixth freshman to finish the 10k
race.
High School: Ruybalid attended Los Lunas High
School in Los Lunas, N.M., where he was a member of the cross-country and track
and field teams. He was a three-year letter winner in cross-country and
lettered twice in track and field. In cross-country, Ruybalid received
all-state honors as a senior and all-district honors in 2007-08. He helped the
Tigers to a third-place finish in district and eighth in state as a senior.
During the 2007 season, the Tigers were district champions and finished fifth
in state.
Personal: Ruybalid is the son of Jay and
Christine Ruybalid. He plans to major in civil engineering.
