Biography
2011 (Junior): Hemphill
did not compete during the 2011 season.
2010 (Sophomore):
Hemphill had his best time and finish of the year at the Aggies home meet the
Kachina Classic (Sep. 18), after he posted a 25:57.9 and placed 14th. Hemphill
competed in two other races for NM State including the WAC Championships where
he placed 39th with a time of 26:53.
2009 (Freshman): Hemphill
scored twice for NM State and helped the Aggies to a third-place finish at the
Kachina Classic (9/19) in Las Cruces, N.M. Hemphill was the fifth Aggie to
cross the line at the season-opening Lobo Invitational (9/5) and the Aggies
home event. He paced his best time of the season at the Lori Fitzgerald
Invitational (9/10) in 22:01.9. That time helped him to finish 17th. At the
Santa Clara Bronco Invitational (10/17), Hemphill earned his bet 8k time of the
year with 26:29 and finished ahead of more than 60 runners.
High School: Hemphill
was a four-time letter winner in track and field and a two-time letter winner
in cross-country for the Hilltoppers at Los Alamos High School. Hemphill helped
the Hilltoppers to win a state title in both sports as a sophomore. The same
year, he assisted his cross-country team to place second at the Nike Team
Nationals meet. As a consistent district scorer, he led the team to four
consecutive district titles. The Hilltoppers were also four-time district
champions in track and field. He was named first team all-district in
cross-country during his junior and senior seasons. During the 2008 cross
country season, Hemphill finished fifth in the 1600-meters and eighth in the
3,200-meter run at the state meet. In track and field, he anchored his
1,600-meter relay team to a second-place state finish.
Personal: Hemphill
is the son of Doug and Gera Hemphill. He was born in Los Alamos, N.M., and
plans to major in microbiology.
