2011 (Junior): Kersten played in 11 games for the Aggies at the guard position. On the season, Kersten tallied 49 knockdowns and allowed just one sack. He recorded two games with double-digit knockdowns, 10 against Idaho (Oct. 15) and a season-high 12 versus Hawai'i (Oct. 22). Kersten helped the Aggies rush for 1,625 yards and 16 touchdowns, while the NM State passing game threw for 3,550 yards and 24 touchdowns. He protected Matt Christian who led the team with 2,158 yards passing and 15 touchdowns, as well as blocked for the team's leading rusher in Kenny Turner who recorded 1,074 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. The NM State offense ranked No. 27 in the nation in passing offense and No. 47 in total offense.
El Camino JC: Kersten was a two-year starter on the offensive line for El Camino Junior College. In 2010, Kersten helped his team rush for 191.1 yards per game and pass for 257.6 yards a contest. As a team, El Camino averaged 448.7 yards a game in 2010, scoring 40 total touchdowns in the year. Kersten was named a second team Southern California Football Association, Northern Conference selection. As a freshman in 2009, Kersten helped his team to an 8-3 overall record. As a team, El Camino passed for 272.5 yards and rushed for 151.2 yards a game, racking up 423.6 yards of total offense per contest. On the year, El Camino tallied 46 offensive touchdowns.
High School: Kersten played four seasons on the Washburn High School football team earning a letter all four years. He helped his team to four straight city championships while being named a three time all-city selection. Kersten was named a second team all-state selection his senior season. He also played basketball and threw the discus and shot put.
Personal: Kersten is the son of Wally and Shawn Kersten. He plans to major in business.
