Biography

2012 (Junior): Bonilla started seven games for the Aggies at linebacker but played in all 12 games.  He recorded 78 tackles, including one sack and 4.5 tackles for a loss.  Bonilla started the season strong by posting a career-high 11 tackles against Sacramento State (Aug. 30), including one tackle for a four-yard loss.  He recorded 10 tackles on three occasions on the season at Ohio (Sept. 8), against New Mexico (Sept. 22) and against BYU (Nov. 24).  Bonilla recorded his sole sack against New Mexico.
2011 (Sophomore): Bonilla started for the Aggies at linebacker in all 13 games in 2011, as well as playing on special teams. He recorded 71 tackles on the season, including 1.5 tackles for a loss, a sack and two pass break-ups. Bonilla led the team with eight stops at BYU (Nov. 19). He made his first career start in the season opener against Ohio (Sept. 3), posting a career-high 10 tackles against the Bobcats. He corralled nine ball carriers against Nevada (Oct. 29) including one for a three-yard loss. Bonilla recorded nine stops against Fresno State and his second pass break-up of the season. In the Aggies’ first ever win over a Big Ten opponent, Bonilla posted his first career sack at Minnesota (Sept. 10) as part of five tackles. In the Aggies’ final game of the season, Bonilla tallied eight tackles against Utah State (Dec. 3).
2010 (Redshirt Freshman): Bonilla played in 10 games for the Aggies in 2010 on special teams. On the year, Bonilla recorded 11 tackles, including four solo efforts. Against No. 3 Boise State (Oct. 1), Bonilla tallied a career-high five tackles. Versus San Diego State in the season opener, Bonilla had three tackles. He would also grab two tackles versus in-state rival New Mexico (Oct. 9).
2009 (Freshman): Bonilla redshirted his freshman year at NM State.
High School: In 2008, Bonilla helped his team to the CIF finals, as he earned All-Inland Valley first team, all-San Gabriel Valley first team and All-CIF first team honors. He was also named an All-Star Hall of Fame Player in 2008 and is a two-time All-Miramonte first team member. During his high school career, Bonilla recorded 191 tackles, 56 tackles for a loss, 29 sacks, four forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and scored two touchdowns.
Personal: Bonilla is the son of Raul Bonilla and Jeneth Mendez. He plans to major in criminal justice while at NM State.
