John David Caffey
John David Caffey begins his second season with the Aggies as the offensive graduate assistant and will help offensive lines coach Mason Miller. Caffey helped guide the offensive line record five 100-yard rushing games and finish third in the nation in total offense, second in passing offense and 15th in scoring offense. The Aggies also broke 21 school records.
Caffey comes to NMSU after serving as defensive coordinator of the football team and boys and girls head track and field coach at Westbury Christian School in Houston, Texas since 2003. His defense was ranked third statistically in the Houston area and helped lead WCS to the playoffs for the first time in school history. Four of his players earned All-State honors. Caffey, who coached in the Lone Star Bowl All-Star Game, also served as strength and conditioning coach for the football team.
As a track coach, Caffey helped develop 12 state meet qualifiers and one of his athletes won the state championship in the 200 meters.
Caffey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sul Ross State University (Alpine, Texas) in 2003, where he lettered four years for the football team. The SRSU Man of the Year as a senior in 2002-03, he was named American Southwest Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year that year as well.
A three-time Academic All-Conference honoree, Caffey also earned the Educational Excellence and Sul Ross Permanent Captain Awards.
The native of Anson, Texas was the valedictorian of his graduating class at Anson High School, president of both his junior and senior classes, and earned nine varsity letters in football, basketball and track.
Dawson Wilber
Dawson Wilber enters his third season with the Aggies as a student assistant. Wilber was a fullback for the Aggies in 2005 before an injury forced him to the sidelines.
Wilber was a four-year letter winner at Midland Greenwood High School in Midland, Texas, where he played under head coach Bob Purser. Wilber earned All-State honorable mention honors as a quarterback his junior and senior seasons. He also earned all-state honorable mention as a kicker and second team All-State punter his senior year. In his sophomore season, Wilber was named the district 4-3A newcomer of the year. As a sophomore quarterback and kicker, Wilber led his team to a 15-1 record and the state championship. In each of Wilber’s four years at Greenwood HS, the Rangers made the playoffs. As a junior, Wilber rushed for 1,600 yards and passed for 1,100 yards while scoring 35 touchdowns (24 rushing, 11 throwing). He kicked a career-long 52-yard field goal in a playoff game in 2003.
Wilber was born in Midland, Texas and is the son of Johnny and Yotta Wilber. He is majoring in Communications.
