2006: Byrd will be a vital part of the Aggies secondary in 2006.
2005 (Junior): Byrd played in six games while starting in five of them. He came up with 15 total tackles, 11 of them being unassisted. Byrd had four tackles against Cal, which was the most for him in a game during the season. He also grabbed three tackles against UTEP (9/3) and New Mexico (9/17). Also against New Mexico, Byrd collected his only pass break up of the season.
2004 (Sophomore): Byrd was the Aggies’ starting right cornerback in all 11 games last season. He recorded 22 tackles including 14 solo tackles. Byrd had one tackle for a loss against New Mexico (9/24). Versus Arkansas (9/4), UL Lafayette (10/9) and Utah State (11/20) Byrd had a season-high four tackles in each game. Against #12 California (9/11), Byrd forced a fumble and recorded one pass break-up. Later in the season versus Florida International (10/30), Byrd had a season highlight, intercepting the ball in the first quarter and returning it 48 yards for his first career touchdown. Byrd recorded two pass break-ups and a blocked field goal attempt against Florida Atlantic (11/13) and a fumble recovery against Utah State. Byrd also returned one kickoff for 21 yards against Utah State.
2003 (Freshman): Byrd proved to be a dangerous kick returner as a true freshman, leading the team in kickoff returns. He averaged 22.2 yards per return and had a career best 96 yards on three returns against UL Lafayette (10/16). His 52-yard return set up an Aggie touchdown in the second quarter. His first career return was a 31-yard effort against Idaho that led to an Aggie field goal. He had 91 yards on five returns against Arkansas including a 28-yard effort. He blocked a field goal attempt in his first game as an Aggie in the win over Western New Mexico (9/6). He finished with eight tackles, a career-best two against UL Lafayette (10/16).
High School: Gill was named a 2nd team all-conference running back at Pulaski H.S. in Green Bay, Wisc.
Personal: Gill Byrd, II was born on September 9, 1984; in San Deigo, Calif. He is the son of Gill and Marilyn Byrd and is majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism Management. His father is a member of the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame and is an assistant coach with the St. Louis Rams.
