2005: Howell will be the Aggies’ starting middle linebacker in 2005.
2004 (Junior): Howell was a back-up linebacker for the Aggies in 2004, playing in all 11 games and starting against UL Lafayette in place of Jimmy Cottrell. On the season, Howell recorded 29 tackles, nine of those tackles were solo efforts, including four tackles for a loss. Against UTEP (10/2), Howell had a season-high 12 tackles and two tackles for a loss. Howell then recorded seven tackles against UL Lafayette, including four solo tackles, a one tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery.
2002-03 (Junior College): Howell was a two-year starter at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. He was a first team all- Northeast Football Conference pick in 2003 after leading the Vikings to the Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa and a share of the Northeast Football Conference title. He had 63 total tackles, seven of those for loss, two quarterback sacks and an interception. He had a season-high 11 tackles in a win over Erie Community College. As a freshman, Howell started nine games and finished with 48 total tackles. He also had eight tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks and an interception. Before he went to Hudson Valley, Howell served four years in the United States Army. Prior to joining the military, Howell pitched for the Brevard College (NC) baseball team, helping the Tornados to a 59-12 record and a spot in the NAIA World Series. He finished the year with a 7-2 record on the mound.
High School: Howell was on the high school honor roll and a member of Who’s Who Among High School Students.
Personal: John was born in Columbia, S.C. ,and is the son of John and Betty Howell. He is majoring in Sociology.
