New Mexico State University Athletics

2006 (Senior): Hernishin played and started the first six games as a linebacker for the Aggies until he suffered a season-ending knee injury against No. 15 Boise State.  He accumulated 28 tackles, 10 solo and 18 assisted.  Against Southeastern Louisiana (8/31) he tallied a season-high ten tackles and had three tackles for-a-loss of four yards.  He also recorded five tackles against New Mexico (9/9), Texas Southern (9/16) and Idaho (10/78).  Against UTEP (10/30) he had one pass break-up and versus Texas Southern (9/16) he recorded a quarterback sack.

2005 (Junior): Hernishin played in all 12 games for NMSU in 2005 at the middle linebacker spot. On the season, he recorded 19 tackles and three tackles-for-a-loss of six yards. Hernishin tallied a career-high five tackles and a tackle-for-a-loss against Louisiana Tech (10/1) and later tie that total against San Jose State (11/19). Hernishin then tallied three tackles against Hawai’i (10/15) and two versus Boise State (11/5).

Chaffey College: In 2004 he had 135 tackles, six quarterback sacks and three interceptions in his only season at Chaffey. He was an honorable mention All-State pick. He was a three-year starter at Corona High School and an all-state pick his senior season.

High School: Hernishin was four-year letterwinner for Servite High School in Anaheim, Calif. He helped lead the Friars to a 29-11 record in his four seasons on the team. Michael was named a first team All-Serra League selection his sophomore, junior and senior seasons at the linebacker position and played in the Orange County North/South All-Star Game as a senior.

Personal: Michael is the son of Brian and Julie Herishin and plans to major in Kinesiology.
