Biography

2006 (Junior): Mike moved from center to tackle in 2006, starting every game for the Aggies. Mike has now started 35 straight contests on the offensive line. He helped the Aggies finish third in the nation in total offense, second in passing offense and 15th in scoring offense. He helped the Aggies record five 100-yard rushing games as a team. Mike assisted in the protection of quarterback Chase Holbrook, who broke 21 school records in 2006. As a team, the Aggies also broke three total offensive records, six passing records and tied the school’s scoring record. He helped the Aggies recorded three games with over 500 yards passing, five games with over 400 yards passing and 11 games with over 300 yards passing.

 

2005 (Sophomore):  Mike started for the Aggies at center all 12 games, helping the Aggies finishes 24th in the nation in passing offense with 266 passing yards per games. He also helped NMSU’s Buries rush for three consecutive 100-yard game, an Aggie first since 2000. He has made 23 consecutive starts for the Aggies.

 

2004 (Redshirt Freshman):  Martinez entered the season as the starting center in the Aggies’ first two games. Martinez then jumped back and forth from center and left tackle the remainder of the season. He has made 11 consecutive starts.

 

2003 (Freshman):  Martinez was a redshirt his first year at NMSU.

 

High School: Martinez was a first team, Class 5A All-State pick as a senior at Overland High School.  He was also a first team All-Colorado selection and named a Colorado Blue Chip Recruit by the Denver Post.  He is also a three-year letterwinner in baseball, earning all-conference honors, and was a letterwinner in wrestling, setting a school record for most consecutive pins with 10.  He was a two-year starter and helped Overland to a combined record of 19-6 in those two seasons.  As a junior Overland went 10-3 and advanced to the Class 5A state semifinals and his senior year the team went 9-3 and advanced to the quarterfinals.  Overland ran a split-back, veer, triple option offense.  He started at offensive guard and also was the team’s long snapper.

 

Personal: Michael was born in Denver, Colo., and is the son of Mike and Carol Martinez. He is majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism Management.
