Biography

2005: Paul has moved full-time to wide receiver from quarterback this season, and should be one of the Aggies top threats.

2004 (Junior): Dombrowski was the Aggies’ back-up quarterback in 2004, while also seeing time at the wide receiver position. Paul caught a pass, rushed the ball or threw the ball at least once in all 11 games last season. He was third on the team in rushing with 3.5 yards a carry, tallying 161 yards on the season. Paul was also second on the team in passing (22.5 ypg) and second on the team in receiving yards with 35.6 yards per game. Dombrowski scored five touchdowns on the season, four receiving and one rushing. He was also third on the team in total offense with 408 yards. Against North Texas (10/23), Paul grabbed a season-high six catches for 68 yards. Versus UTEP (10/2), Dombrowski rushed for a season-high 49 yards on 10 carries. In his last game of the season, Dombrowski caught four passes for a career-high 81 yards and a touchdown against Utah State (11/20).

2003 (Sophomore): Paul started five of the first seven games before suffering a knee injury against UL Lafayette (10/16). He still finished the year with 1,212 yards of total offense and completed 51 percent of his passes. He also showed his versatility by seeing some time at I-back and at wide receiver. He caught two passes for 10 yards. His best game of the season came against Idaho (10/4). In that game he had a career high 311 yards of total offense. Paul ran for 122 yards and a touchdown and completed 13 of 16 passes for 81 percent, 189 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 34-yard touchdown run and completed scoring passes of one and 20 yards. Paul completed his first 10 passes to start the game and did not throw an incompletion until the 7:36 mark of the third quarter. He also surpassed the 3,000-yard mark in career total offense in that contest. Against #6 Texas, Dombrowski came off the bench to lead the Aggies on an eight-play, 51-yard drive that gave NMSU a 7-0, second quarter lead. He accounted for 38 of the 51 yards of total offense including an 18-yard run for a touchdown. Dombrowski finished the game with 72 yards rushing on 17 carries. In the last game he was healthy,.Dombrowski threw for a career high 212 yards and a touchdown against UL Lafayette (10/16). Paul had a 12-yard run for a touchdown in the second quarter and an eight yard scoring pass to Ronshay Jenkins in the third quarter. He also had a 43-yard completion to Jared Quick. Against New Mexico, Dombrowski ran for 50 yards, caught a pass for four yards and threw for 85 yards. After injuring his knee against UL Lafayette, Dombrowski played sparingly over the final five games. He ran one play from scrimmage against Arkansas and was forced into the game in the second half in the season finale against North Texas after Buck Pierce was injured.

2002 (Redshirt Freshman): Paul broke the school record for rushing yards in a season by a quarterback and led the team with 868 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also completed over 60 percent of his passes for 1,327 yards. He started eight games at quarterback for the Aggies, leading them to a 5-3 record. He was twice named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, only one of two players to pull off the feat in 2002. Paul earned his first recognition November 4 following the Aggies’ game with Middle Tennessee (11/2). He recorded 112 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown on the ground and went 13-of-22 for 154 yards in the air and added another touchdown. Paul earned his second player of the week recognition in the Aggies’ season finale at Idaho (11/23). He ran for 109 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns while going 9-of-13 for 185 yards through the air. Paul saw limited play in the Aggies’ season-opener at South Carolina (8/31). Against the University of California (9/7), he led the team with 66 yards on 12 carries and went four-of-nine for 40 yards and a touchdown through the air. Paul got his first career start against in-state rival, New Mexico (9/21), and led the Aggies in rushing, recording 136 yards on 18 carries and scoring one touchdown while going 5-of-11 for 54 yards through the air. Against a tough Georgia defense (9/28), Paul went 11-of-26 for 152 yards through the air and ran for one touchdown. With Buck Pierce returning to the starting lineup, Paul saw limited play against UTEP (10/5), recording just one completion through the air and 44 yards rushing on 12 carries. Paul led the Aggies to their second straight win over Louisiana-Lafayette (10/12) after Pierce injured his ankle in the first quarter. Paul ran for 79 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown while throwing for 151 yards while completing 10-of-18 passes. Paul had one of his best games against UL-Monroe (10/19), as he recorded 97 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns and threw for 174 yards while completing 14-of-17 passes. Against Arkansas State (10/26), Paul led the Aggies with 114 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown while going 16-of-23 for 141 yards and one touchdown. Against Utah State (11/9), Paul went five-of-eight for 126 yards and two touchdowns through the air while recording 89 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns on the ground. Paul saw split-duty with Pierce against North Texas (11/16), the deciding game for the Sun Belt Championship. Paul went seven-of-nine for 139 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

2001 (Freshman): Dombrowski redshirted his first year at NMSU.

High School: Dombrowski lettered three years at Sultana High School in Hesperia, Calif., where he played for coach Pete Delagardelle. He started three years at three different positions (free safety as a sophomore, running back and backup quarterback as a junior, and quarterback as a senior) and returned kicks. He twice earned All-CIF, all-county and All-Mohave River League honors. As a senior, he became the first player in San Bernardino County history to rush and pass for 1,000 yards in the same season, setting single-season school records for total offense (2,498 yards), touchdowns, points, rushing average and punt return average. As a junior he earned all-league and all-area honors, rushing for 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns in just eight games. Paul was a member of the school’s honor roll all four years.

Personal: Paul Michael Dombrowski was born in Orange, Calif., and is the son of Mike and Sue Dombrowski, His uncle, Mike Roach, played football at the Air Force Academy. Paul is majoring in Family and Child Science.
