2004: Williams is back on the offensive side of the ball and should be a key player in the Aggie receiving corps this fall. He had an excellent spring, catching four passes for 72 yards in the spring game.
2003 (Junior): Williams moved from receiver to free safety midway through the season and finished with nine total tackles. As a receiver he had four catches for 68 yards. He had a career-best three catches for 61 yards including a career-long reception of 39 yards against Western New Mexico (9/6). He also had a seven-yard reception against Idaho (10/4). On defense, Williams had his best game against Utah State (11/6), registering five tackles, three of them solo. He came back the next week and had three tackles against Arkansas (11/15).
2002 (Sophomore): Preston played in all 12 games for the Aggies in 2002 as a member of the Aggie’s special teams and at wide receiver. Preston recorded seven tackles (five solo, two assisted) on special teams, forced one fumble and caught three passes for 18 yards at wide receiver. He caught his first two passes of his career against California for a total of eight yards and he caught one pass for 10 yards against Georgia (9/28). Preston recorded a career-high three tackles against Arkansas State (10/26). Against Utah State (11/9) he recorded two tackles and forced a fumble.
2001 (Redshirt Freshman): Williams was a standout special teams player for the Aggies last year. He played on the NMSU punt return, kickoff and kickoff return teams. He made one tackle against Arkansas State (11/10).
2000 (Freshman): Preston redshirted his first year at NMSU.
High School: Preston led the state in receptions (48) and receiving yardage (887) as a senior in 1999 at Farmington. High School. He averaged 18.4 yards per reception in 1999 and was a three-year letterman for head coach Tom Lynch. Preston totaled 107 catches and 1,875 yards in three seasons at FHS and was named first-team all-state following his senior season. He was a three-time All-District I-AAAA honoree at wide receiver and twice an academic all-district selection.
Personal: Preston is the son of Eric and Roseanne Williams. His father played linebacker at Weber State. Preston is majoring in Journalism.
