Biography

 

2011 (Junior): Clay played in nine games for the Aggies in 2011 at running back and on special teams. On the season, Clay rushed for 133 yards on 42 carries and a touchdown. He also caught four passes for 57 yards. On special teams he returned five kicks for 53 yards and tallied nine tackles. His best game at running back came against Minnesota (Sept. 10), where he rushed for 97 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown, helping the Aggies defeat their first ever Big Ten opponent. Clay also caught two passes for 34 yards against the Gophers. Against Louisiana Tech (Nov. 26), Clay returned a career-high four kickoffs for 42 yards.

2010 (Sophomore): Clay played in 11 games for the Aggies in 2010 at running back and on special teams. He recorded 226 yards rushing on 54 carries, three receptions for seven yard and two kick returns for 32 yards. In his first career start against New Mexico (Oct. 9), Clay rushed for 44 yards on 11 carries, while also recovering a muffed punt in the end zone for his first career touchdown to help the Aggies beat their in-state rival, 16-14. Against LA Tech (Nov. 13), Clay recorded the Aggies' only 100 yard rushing game of the season, rushing 22 times for 108 yards, while catching one pass. Versus Nevada (Nov. 20), he rushed for 55 yards on 13 carries. In the season finale against Hawai'i (Nov. 27), Clay rushed eight times for 19 yards.

2009 (Freshman): Clay played in eight games for NM State at running back and on special teams before suffering a season-ending injury. Clay tallied 10 rushes for 16 yards on the season and three tackles on special teams. All his rushing yards came at Ohio State (10/31).

High School: Clay was the Canyon High School Cougars' starting running back in 2007 and 2008. He was an all-district selection his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. As a senior, Clay earned all-region honors after rushing for 1,220 yards on 151 carries and nine touchdowns. He also caught two passes on the season. As a junior, Clay carried the ball 120 times for 1,180 yards and seven touchdowns, helping his team to the state playoffs. During his sophomore season, Clay was a 1,000 yards rusher with over 10 touchdown carries. He also played on the defensive side of the ball as well at linebacker.

Personal: Clay is the son of Robert Sr. and Teresa Clay. He plans to major in sports science.
