2004: Tony will be the Aggies’ number one running back going into the fall.
2003 (Red-shirt Freshman): Tony had an outstanding redshirt freshman season, rushing for 712 yards, a pair of touchdowns, averaging a team best 5.5 yards per carry and posted four games of 100 or more yards rushing. Joseph started five games last season, rushing for over 100 yards in each of those starts except the season opener at #5 Texas (8/31). He rushed for just 26 yards on nine carries against the Longhorns, but went on to average 5.7 yards per carry the rest of the season. He came off the bench to the following week to rush for 47 yards on five carries including a 26-yard run against Western New Mexico (9/6). He carried the ball just six times in the next two games, but he made his first career start against Idaho (10/4) and came through in a big way. He rushed for 163 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown against the Vandals. Joseph averaged 7.8 yards per carry and scored on a five-yard run in the third quarter. His 163 yards were the most for an Aggie freshman since the 2000 season. He had 128 of his 163 yards in the second half including 66 in the fourth quarter. Tony started the following week against Middle Tennessee and ran for 115 yards on 19 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He had another excellent fourth quarter, rushing for 56 yards in the final 15 minutes including a career best 51-yard run. Joseph returned to a supporting role the following week against UL Lafayette (10/16), but still managed 6.1 yards per carry as he rushed for 55 yards on nine carries including a 31-yard run. Tony carried the ball just 11 times the next two weeks, but again returned to the starting lineup against Utah State (11/6) and again put together an impressive performance. Joseph rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries, helping the Aggies to a 26-21 win over Utah State. Again he put together another impressive fourth quarter, rushing for 60 yards on 13 carries. Joseph then saved his best for his last start, shredding Independence Bowl Champion Arkansas (11/15) for 112 yards on 17 carries. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry and had a 46-yard run in the third quarter that setup an Aggie touchdown that got NMSU to within 21-17 of the Razorbacks. He also caught a career-best three passes for 18 yards.
2002 (Freshman): Tony was a redshirt at NMSU.
High School: Joseph was an all-district and all-state pick at Midland Christian High School in Midland, Texas.
Personal: Tony was born in Los Angeles, California and is the son of Everin and Iren Mitchell. He is majoring in Communication.
